A manhunt has been launched for a Moroccan man who lunged at a priest with a broken bottle after warning him: "You should be afraid of me, I’m an Arab”.
The attacker, who was reportedly drunk , tried to grab the victim’s crucifix from around his neck before threatening to kill him at a cafe in the south east Spanish city of Cartagena.
A waiter tried to help the priest, but he was hit over the head with a bottle, before two Moroccan men managed to get the attacker away from his victim.
The victim was a Franciscan missionary, who was visiting relatives in his native city when the attack happened, around 7pm on Monday.
The priest, known only by his religious name of Fray Job de Jesus, told a local paper he believed the attack had been “ideologically-motivated” and was a clear case of Christianophobia.

The attack comes a day after thousands attended the funeral of Father Jacques Hamel, whose throat was cut by a pair of 19-year-old killers in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, in Normandy.
The 85-year-old was laid to rest in Rouen cathedral a week after Adel Kermiche and Abdel Malik Petitjean were shot dead after killing the holy man.
