With most recent recruit, Northern Ireland goalkeeper Michael McGovern, joining up with his new teammates after their 3-1 friendly defeat to FK Dukla Prague, manager Alex Neil made it clear McGovern won’t be the last new face through the door at Carrow Road.
While the Scot admitted there won’t be any action while the club are away at their training camp in Austria, Neil seemed highly confident of securing more new players at Norwich before they begin their season at Ewood Park on August 6.
“We are working on things but in terms of imminent I don’t think it will happen in the next 24 or 48 hours,” he said. “But I am hopeful by the time we are back from the tour we shouldn’t be too far away from something else.”
Speaking after the 3-1 loss to Czech side Dukla Prague, Neil was still in a positive mindset about their pre-season progress.
“In the first half, perhaps they did look ahead of us in terms of fitness with the tempo they wanted to play. In the second half up until their goal we dominated in what was our best spell and they hit us on the break a little bit. The goal knocked us back a bit. We didn’t really recover for five minutes and the game opened up again.”
“Listen, there were some good bits and the creative side of it is always something that comes last. The play in the final third was not as good as we had liked. I didn’t know they had played eight games but looking at them they look up to speed. I thought both teams put it in and we will take a lot from it.”
