tiliyan Petrov
Stiliyan Petrov's dreams of a return to playing for Aston Villa are over with the news that club won't offer him a new deal.
The club confirmed the news tonight in a move that left fans quick to pay tribute to the inspirational midfielder.
But after careful consideration the Italian has decided that he is not a part of his plans going forward. It will come as a bitter blow to the Bulgarian who was determined to earn himself a second crack at life at Villa following his early retirement in 2013.
Petrov was forced to hang up his boots after he was diagnosed with acute leukaemia. He now has other offers to weigh up and will take his time before deciding on the next chapter in his life.
Roberto Di Matteo spoke of the decision, and said: “Stiliyan is an inspiration. I have spoken to him, explained my thoughts and offered him the chance to remain at the club."
